2024 Catholic Schools Week ends with living Rosary in gym
Before SFX students begin their weekend every Friday, they pray the Rosary in their classrooms before dismissal. However, last week, students gathered in the gym for something special.
SFX students on Friday prayed a “Living” Rosary around a massive circle of paper plates, representing Rosary beads. Older students laid flowers on each plate as the prayer progressed.
Meanwhile, younger students circled around the basketball court in the gym and leaders from the middle school read aloud prayers and Joyful Mysteries.
SFX School has been a part of the Children’s Rosary Prayer Group Movement since 2017, which was the 100th anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima. Children from around the world partake in the Children’s Rosary every week and have been since 2011.
You can learn more about the Children’s Rosary on its website. There, you can also see a map of all the groups in the world dedicated to the prayer movement.
“Being part of this mission is very important to our school for many reasons,” said SFX first-grade teacher Ms. Julie Cannova. “One being to give honor to Our Blessed Mother who has reminded us time and time again to pray the Rosary for peace in our world and in our families.”
“This mission really unites beautifully with the mission of St. Francis Xavier (our patron saint), as well as the missions of our parish and school in that, being a part of this prayer group unites us in prayer with children praying all over the world,” she continued. “The website even shows a map of those prayer groups who are praying and at what time. Anyone, even families, can join us and unite with us in prayer from home by clicking the light on the website.”
Last week’s Living Rosary concluded SFX School’s celebration of Catholic Schools Week (CSW). Students on Friday had permission to be out of uniform and dress in school spirit attire. Several students dawned school colors - red, white and black - and the SFX School brand.
