SFX students participate in the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge

Saint Francis Xavier (SFX) Catholic School physical education teacher Coach Jeff Berry had pies thrown in his face on Monday by the winners of this year’s Kid’s Heart Challenge fundraiser.

The Kid’s Heart Challenge raises money for the American Heart Association (AHA) for heart-related research. Participating students win mystery prizes for every $50 they raise.

The Kid’s Heart Challenge also aims to educate children to practice healthy heart habits like avoiding tobacco and adopting a healthy diet. These habits, according to the AHA, can impact risk factors for heart disease and stroke.

Students gathered in the SFX gym on Monday to participate in a variety of fun games. Those who raised $150 or more for the Kid’s Heart Challenge got to throw pies at Coach Berry as the other students cheered them on.

According to Coach Berry, SFX students raised approximately $4,500 for the AHA.
